Hello everybody,

I’m sure you will have heard what a great success our holiday in Eastbourne was! I wish we could have taken you all! Where shall we go next year? Does it matter? - because as several of you have said – ‘It’s not the venue but the company that makes the occasion.’ Our difficulty is finding a quality hotel that will take a full coach at a reasonable rate, but have no fear we’ll find somewhere suitable.

Unfortunately we’ve had to cancel the visit to the ‘Milestones’ Museum because of lack of support. Some you win, some you lose! It clearly didn’t appeal to enough of you, though sadly I received a number of enquiries after the confirmation date required by the coach company. Apologies to those people who had booked.

Don’t forget the Coffee Morning at Albany Lodge, Newport from 11am. on Wednesday 19th October. There will be a nominal charge on the day. Very few of you have booked in so far but hopefully this letter will jog your memory.

And now for something different! Have you ever fancied painting a watercolour? Here’s a chance to paint one in a day. We can organise a one day course at Westridge Community Learning Centre where a qualified tutor will demonstrate the basic techniques and you will paint a watercolour in a day. The cost is £25 per person to include all materials and tea and coffee. You will need to bring a packed lunch. It is essential that we have 12 participants for this to take place. The date can’t be fixed until we know we can get 12 takers.

Our Christmas Buffet Lunch will be on Friday 2nd December 11.30 for 12.15 at Medina Lodge in Cowes. The cost will be £12.50 payable by cheque in advance please. Cheques should be made payable to ‘The Compass Group’. Our Treasurer says we can afford to subsidise this again – So Happy Christmas to you all from John!  For those of you who came to Eastbourne, rumour has it that ‘The Compass Girls’ will be making a guest appearance. If you didn’t come to Eastbourne then you’re in for a treat!

Dianne Alder-Smith held a class last year showing how to make table decorations for Christmas. She has kindly offered to repeat the session. Sandown Lodge 2pm Wednesday 14th. December. Phone to book.

Finally, at our first meeting this year we chased away the ‘January Blues’ with a games afternoon. Bingo, Wheel of Fortune, Play Your Cards Right, with tea, cakes and chatter. Shall we do it again? Wednesday 25th. January 2pm. Sandown Lodge. Jenny and I are visiting our daughter Mary in New Zealand for Christmas and New Year. So it is essential that you book early if we are to confirm that these events are to go ahead.

Raffle prizes will be appreciated for both the Coffee Morning and of course The Christmas Buffet.

            With best wishes,

                                    Chris and Jenny
